What is the funding goal, and why do we have one?
The purpose of the funding goal is to make sure that the costs necessary to complete this project are met, and also to create transparency between Variant and those who would support our project.
The funding goal not only includes the minimum costs needed for printing and compensation of the contributors, but also gives us more financial stability and options to provide additional merchandise and bonus content.
Once preorders open, regular updates regarding progress towards the funding goal will be posted to the Variant social media accounts.
What are Variant’s possible expenses?
The following is a rough breakdown of Variant’s projected expenses:
Printing costs: $1200
Merch: $1500
-
- Miniprints: $150
- Bookmarks: $70
- Charms+buttons: $550
- Stickers: $250
- Tote bags: $480
-
- Padded envelopes: $200
- Chipboard: $50
- Flap seal bags: $50
- Shipping Fees: $2000
-
- Website fees
- Payment processor fees
- Etc
As you can see, it starts to add up pretty fast. For this reason, the funding goal for Variant is set at $5,500 (about 150 preorders). This will mean that the cost of printing the book itself is covered, and will also cover the cost of creating and shipping out merchandise.
If the funding goal is not met, books and merchandise will still be printed (though likely in smaller quantities than projected) and contributors will still be compensated with copies of the book.
Should the funding goal be exceeded, however, there are some fun stretch goals that we have planned!
